September's MOTM is Earl (N1Husker). Please join me in congratulating Earl in becoming this member of the month.

    About me
I was born and raised and lived in Lincoln, Nebraska. I am a Nebraska Cornhusker fan, but I am no longer a rabid fan as I once was. I served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973. I married my wife 33 years ago and I we have been all over the country. I have been to college, I have been a police officer, I have been a long haul and short haul truck driver and have been in various safety and training positions with different trucking companies. I also had a tool franchise in Southern California and north Kitsap county, with Matco Tools. After health problems accelerated my retirement, I found this hobby to keep me busy and keep my brain working.

    Involved in Hobby
I got involved in this hobby after I retired. I was visiting my brother in Oregon and his wife has a small 40 gallon hex tank. She isn't as passionate about the hobby as I have become. She also has her own business and works a lot of hours, so I understand. I brought that excitement home and I have studied everything I could and along with help from some great people in Reef Frontiers. Now I feel and I'm sure my wife feels, that I have become obsessed. But I like it.

    My tank
I started with a 36 gallon corner tank and I had that for a year. When I moved. I went to a 50 gallon tank. I moved again to my current and last house, I think, and I went to a 90 gallon tank. I am working on getting new LED lights for the tank and I am currently battling a diatom problem. I have a 29 gallon sump that my son help me build and I have a new Bubble Magus NAC 6 skimmer. I really have to say thanks to all of my family the help that I have received from them.

    Got involved with RF
When I started the hobby, one of the first places I went to for information was Saltwater City and talked to Andy, he was a great help. The guy that works there, I think his name is Chris, told me about Reef Frontiers and I have been here ever since.

    Philosophy
My philosophy of the hobby is that I feel I owe it to myself to find out as much as I can, about how to keep all of my inhabitants happy. Try to convey any knowledge that I can to new people that are interested in getting into this hobby and help them as much as we can. Share our common interest with all reefers and be able to make new friends.

    Advice
My advice that I would give to anyone that wants to have a reef aquarium is to take it slow. It is easy to get excited and go to fast. Also, study everything you can about this hobby. There is so much information via the web, you should be able to succeed. Ask questions, there are many experienced reefers out there that have already experienced what you are having problems with. Visit other reefers tanks and ask questions.

Thanks Carlos, I really appreciate it. I need to get over there to see how your progressing. You probably have it full of fish and corals.

Thanks alot, Devin. Very much appreciated. That was my 50, I now have a 90 and I will get pictures of that as soon as my son comes out here with his GoPro3 camera. He wants to try some underwater shots. That should be interesting.
