Cant wait to see how this turns out I've always thought that having a rock sticking out in the center
or where ever would be cool. I have a rimless to and think its pretty awesome. One of the things that I
have seen in another forum (fresh water) was where they had made roots that stuck down into the water
and thought that was pretty dang cool to. It looked like an underwater view of a river bank where the dirt was
washed away and the roots hang down into the water.

Any ways good luck and great idea!

Two WP40's might be too much on a 48inch tank. I have one on my 75, and as things are growing in now, I _might_ add a 25, but its likely if I added a second 40 I wouldn't be able to run it on anything but low.. Honestly, if I tried it now, I don't know that I could run it at all. Don't know if you've run them before so just a heads up on how much flow they put out. There are a lot of factors that will play into that of course, but it might be worth considering just doing one at first, and judging once you see how it does.

Not sure 4 by's would be necessary for the stand, but if you have the right equipment to cut them it likely won't hurt. I did a 'rocket engineer' stand and with 2 by's and its still way overbuilt...

I have done a 24x24x12 shallow Volcano reef before . Just trying to make it bigger and better. Let me find a picture.

      @spieszak maybe 2 x wp25s

that is a wonderful tank and your ex sucks for dumping bleach in it. I would almost go as far as to say a horrible person for killing all that life sad day.

if it were me, i would bet a single wp40, get the rocks in and get cycling, then judge it from there.. scape and sand are going to play a role in how much flow you'll be able to get from it...but, i have to see and feel flow, whereas some people can really wrap their heads around it with the visual and such...

I'm a flow freak!! In my previous tank,it was 30 gallons had a mp-20 ,mp-40,and a k-2 with mag 7 for my return.. I never played with the jaebos
      So we will see..

Since you are going SPS I would maybe think about a different light. Maybe at least the reefbreeders or BRA. Basically same lights but get some that you know you can trust.

Thanks for heads up. I'm still undecided on lights. I might go diy with aquastyle LEDs .. I'm cheap lol

I went cheap as well. I ended up doing ocean revive version of those LED's. So far really good luck. I have heard a lot of good things about the DIY versions if you are willing to do it.

i'm running mixed or nem/softie.. if i don't mind my flow, everything is angry... so its tough for sps in the 75, but i think i've found the middle ground.
if you tend to lean towards the overkill side, 2 40's might work for you...

I really think 2 40's would be way too much. I guess you could always dial it down though.

Glad to hear that you're going to give the tank another try. Sometimes my gf gets jealous of my tank because I'm constantly looking and checking up on how things are doing. I'll notice algae or corals growing before I notice things with her. I'm glad that she enjoys the hobby with me and is always willing to help with my weekly maintenance. Can't wait to see how your tank will turn out!

On the MP40 note, I think they're a little overkill but since you have them, you might as well use them. You could always sell/trade them and get 2 MP10's for the tank. It'll have less of a footprint in your display in which would look nicer.

This is actually going to be a fresh start new tank. The bleached tank was 24x24x12 this one is going to be 48x24x12..

So my ultimate goal is to have big mangrove trees. Either on the left side or right side of tank. So i set up a little 5 gallon tank, with mp 10 and par 38,and 4 mangroves to get them growing, until the builb completes. Nothing special. Just to grow mangroves!!
