Its definately not old outdated equipment. Its for more experienced reefers and should be done with quality controllers and probes. It's done to help with water quality and clarity. Its another tool like a skimmer or UV sterilizer but if its not done right can be deadly to your tank and harmful to you and your family.
Here is a nice artical. Ozone and the Reef Aquarium, Part 1: Chemistry and Biochemistry by Randy Holmes-Farley - Reefkeeping.com
Here is one of the more recent threads about it here. Learn me about Ozone....
if you do a search for "ozone" you will get pages of readable material.
Ok cool thanks for the info

mercenary,
could not have said it better than Duane.
just read and re-read the articles Duane gave you..and I can't stress that this is for more advanced level reefers and if not setup correctly can be lethal.
I have read about it before it was along time ago.

wow. ozone is intense. so it helps keep organic out of the water for better penetration. gets ammonia to convert quicker. witch in turn helps keep the algae down.
Ozone is an oxidizer, kind of a super radicle. So what it does is directly oxidize some organics, and then breaks down long chain proteins which are then easy to skim out of your tank. Along with that is its ability to kill microscopic critters, such as bacteria, some protozoas and algae cells, which is also nice. As mentioned above it needs to be set up properly and then monitored at all times by using a orp monitor/controler.
