Tell us about yourself:
Well, I'm 28 years old and I'm from the Bahamas. I've been happily married 3 years to my wife Christina who I have been together with from Friday October 15, 1993 at 5:00 p.m(LOL) We are expecting a child in the up-coming new year (about mid August) which makes 2006, something even more interesting to look forward to, because I've always had an incredible love and appreciation for children and finally, if all goes well, one would be my own. Words cannot describe the way I feel about this new experience that is to come... Apart from that, I'm an easy going person, who avoids confusion as much as possible, loves to laugh, loves to help out others in any way I can, and find personal satisfaction when I know I have achieved these things. Pretty much what you see and have learned of me here on the forum , is what I am like in the real world...Hopefully it's a good impression :) Oh yeah, let's not forget the OCD...Got it bigtime!
How did you get involved in the saltwater hobby?
Believe it or not, after my most prized fish ever , (a 10 inch long arowana I had from a juvenile still with its yolk sac) jumped out of my tank, I decided that I was going to try my hands at a saltwater setup since the resources were in my back yard. Also, a very good friend of mine who, along with his father, owns the LFS here, had a pretty cool saltwater setup at the time and he had been nagging me forever to go salt and since I enjoyed going out all the time to catch fish for his tank, I finally gave in...Best move I think I've made so far!
Tell us about your tank
I have a 90 gal FOWLR (for now) all-glass aquarium that sits on a custom stand and canopy. Some of my equipment include an AquaC EV-120 skimmer, custom built sump/fuge with and 18 watt pc light on it running on an alternate photoperiod from my tank, a 3/4 inch Seaswirl powered by a 750 gph return pump, CPR CS100 overflow with aqualifter and prefilter, 2 little fishies phosban reactor, as of today a 260 watt coralife aqualight with built in fans, 2 Seio M820 powerheads which will be changed for the Tunze stream with controller next month when I pick it up in Orlando, a Marineland Emperor 280 powerfilter to run carbon and that's about it for now.
How did you become involved with Reef Frontiers?
I was trying to research a little bit of information on saltwater setups, especially some pictures, and when I googled it, Reef Frontiers was the number one link and have been here ever since.
What is your reef keeping philosophy?
To be open minded and exercise patience..."Rome wasn't built in a day"
What is your dream tank?
Definately a 6ft or longer acrylic tank
Do you have any advice for others?
Yes...As for the hobby, patience is key to being successful with a saltwater tank as well as reading as much material as you can that is out there. Don't be like me who had to start over because I wasn't well equipped. Also, don't be afraid to ask, ask, ask...Whatever question you may have. The one question you should have asked, but didn't, may be the one answer you needed to have a successful reef tank.
...As for the forum, my advice would be to be as helpful as possible and as kind as possible to your fellow reefers/members. We were all once beginners at one point, so remember how you felt coming into the hobby clueless.
