Tell us about yourself:
My name Is James. I am 27yrs old and Born and Raised in Portland, Oregon. I am married with 2 kids 1 daughter (Jesse) Age 6 and a son (Dominic) who is 3. I have been married for 3yrs now and I thank my Wife for putting up with such a hobby for as long as she has. I enjoy Snowboarding, motorcycles, electronics, and of Course my Reeftank.
How did you get involved in the saltwater hobby?
I started out in the hobby about 4yrs ago with a 29g tank that was given to me by my apartment manager. I decided that I wanted to setup a Saltwater tank as I was always into fish but didnt like the dull look of Freshwater species available. I started to slowly read up on saltwater fish and transforming the tank into a 29g tank... Within a few weeks I was looking for a larger tank. Within a few Days I bought a 55g tank and that was the basis for my first Reef Tank...
Tell us about your tank
My tank is a 224g Envision Acrylics made tank... Its measures 72x24x30. The tank is lit by 3x400w Xm 10k bulbs and 4x160w Vho Actinics. I run an AquaC Ev400 for my skimmer and a Korallin 1502 for a Ca Reactor. The tank is filled with Approx 240lbs of pukani Liverock and Various Sps corals with a few Lps and Anemones. I also Run a 1/2 hp PCI chiller to keep the temperature down around 77F. The Bulk of my system is now controlled with an Aquacontroller III unit which monitors the tank in case of emergencies. How did you become involved with Reef Frontiers?
I stumbled upon Reeffrontiers while reading up on Sw Reeftanks... Mojos tank was an Inspiration for me to setup my own Reeftank... Its one of the best tanks out there... I am glad that I found such a great community with great folks involved.
What is your reef keeping philosophy?
My philosophy is to keep the New hobbiests informed so that we can extend the knowledge of the world reefs and bring Beauty into homes around the world.
What is your dream tank?
My Dream tank would be a 96x48x30 Inwall Sps dominated Tank.
Do you have any advice for others?
I would say take it slow and read as much information as you can. You can never learn to much and If you cant find the Answer feel free to ask. There is never a stupid question just Stupid Answers.
