Tell us about yourself:
Born and bred Chicagoan and diehard Cubs/baseball fan. I've been a Chicago police officer for fourteen years now, have a wife and daughter. Been in the ocean once in my life, a snorkling adventure in Tulum Mexico. A member of CMAS.
How did you get involved in the saltwater hobby?
Damn you Walt Disney...this started as my daughter's 2 year birthday present. My wife figured I would do goldfish, boy was she surprised when Nemo (false perc) eventually ended up in the tank.
Tell us about your tank
A 12 gallon JBJ nano cube with live rock and live sand stock 48 watts of 50/50 pc lighting. A skimmerless system using an incorperated fuge set up. A common firefish and false percula clown fish for my verts. A golden skunk cleaner shrimp with various cleaners of all shapes and sizes. Corals, xenia, gonipora, zoanthids, Fl ricordia, and purple mushrooms. How did you become involved with Reef Frontiers?
I did a search on yahoo about some subject and I was directed to a thread from this great site, and the rest as they say is history.
What is your reef keeping philosophy?
Natural reef and coexistence of livestock. Everything has it's role in the tank whether it's a nassarius snail to mix sand up to the cleaner cleaning up waste. They all play an important part to keep the tank as hopefully as healthy and thriving as possible.
What is your dream tank?
A 30 gallon AGA w/ sump etc w/ stronger lighting to keep some of the beautiful corals I see in the big boys on this site.
Do you have any advice for others?
Read as much as you can about this hobby. Share your own experiences, as others can only benefit from your wisdom. Fragging corals and swapping them with others will only save nature's truely last hidden treasure.
