      Scientific Name: Cirripectes chelomatus
      Max. size: 12.0 cm TL (male/unsexed)
      Environment: reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 16 m
      Climate: tropical
      Distribution: Western Pacific = off eastern Australia from Lady Musgrave Reef northward to Sir Charles Hardy Islands, as far north as Basilaki Islands, Papua New Guinea; as far south as Lord Howe Island; and eastward to Fiji and Tonga Islands.
      Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 12-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-16; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 15-17; Vertebrae: 29-31. Head spotted; iris red; pectoral fins yellow; rugosities of anal spine dirty yellow. Cirri, nuchal 22-45, supraorbital 3-93, nasal 6-82; 4 groups of nuchal cirri with a slightly expanded flap at bases of ventralmost cirri. Dorsal fin with shallow notch above last spine. In adults, dorsal-fin membrane attached to caudal fin. Lateral line incomplete. No scales. Simple cephalic pore system.
      Biology: Inhabits shallow rocky and coral reefs.
      Aquarium Care: Provide plenty of liverock, and microagae growth. May nip on SPS, LPS, and clam mantles. Similar personality as Ecsenius spp., but more cryptic.
