      Scientific Name: Dischistodus melanotus
      Max. size: 16.0 cm TL (male/unsexed)
      Environment: reef-associated; non-migratory; marine; depth range 1 - 12 m
      Distribution: Western Pacific: southern Japan and the Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, Philippines, Palau, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef. Reported from Vanuatu.
      Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-15; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 13-14. Adults have a large black patch on the abdomen reaching the anus; juveniles an ocellus over the center of the dorsal fin base.
      Biology: Occurs in lagoon reefs and generally prefers small patch reefs with sand or rubble substrates. Feeds on benthic algae which it aggressively guards against other herbivores. Juveniles secretive in rubble
      Aquairum Care:Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C). Natural diet consists mainly of algae
