      Scientific Name: Gnatholepis thompsoni
      Max. size: 8.2 cm TL (male/unsexed); 5.7 cm TL (female)
      Environment: reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 50 m
      Distribution: Western Atlantic: Bermuda, Florida (USA), and the Bahamas to northern South America. Eastern Atlantic: Ascension and St. Helena; Sao Tome Island.
      Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-11; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 10-11. With two indistinct brownish orange stripes, the first running from behind eye to above pectoral base; second stripe beginning at front of opercle and running to pectoral base; a vertical brownish orange line at top of iris and running ventrally from eye.
      Biology: Inhabits open sand, rock, and rubble areas. Often occurs with the bridled goby, Coryphopterus glaucofraenum. Feeds on organisms and organic material by taking sand into its mouth and expelling it through the gill openings, filtering out its food in the process
