Max. size: 12.0 cm TL (male/unsexed)
      Environment: reef-associated; marine ; depth range 15 - 40 m
Distribution: Pacific Ocean: Indonesia to the Marquesas and Society Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Scott Reef; Palau in Micronesia, closely related to Anampses lineatus from the west Indian Ocean. Range extends to Easter Island.
Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 12. Swims in small groups, each with several females and a single dominant male. Feeds on small crustaceans, mollusks and polychaetes. Buries in sand at night

These burrowing wrasses are hardy, adapt well to aquarium life, peaceful, takes a wide variety of foodstuffs, resistant to parasitic infections and compatible with other wrasses. May have an appetite for tubeworms. Provide a fine-grained substrate of at least 3 inches (7.5 cm) in depth
