      Scientific Name: Gunnellichthys pleurotaenia
      Max. size: 9.0 cm TL (male/unsexed)
      Environment: reef-associated; marine
      Distribution: Western Central Pacific: Java and the Philippines to western Samoa, north to the Ryukyu Islands, south to Rowley Shoals and the southern Great Barrier Reef. Throughout Micronesia.
      Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 19; Dorsal soft rays (total): 39; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 36
      Biology: Found in shallow, flat and sandy areas. Often less than 3 m, sometimes over 8 m depth
      Aquarium Care: Prefers a water temperature between 72-83ºF (22-28ºC). Natural diet consists mainly of benthis and pelagic crustaceans. Feed a varied meaty diet, such as enriched brine shrimp, mysis, shaved or finely chopped fish or shrimp flesh, and other various frozen carnivore foods, with one or two feedings per day. Best to keep this species with peaceful tankmates. Rarely seen in the hobby. Provide a substrate, plenty of hiding places, and a refugium may be beneficial.
