      Scientific Name: Gunnellichthys monostigma
      Max. size: 11.0 cm TL (male/unsexed)
      Environment: reef-associated; marine; depth range 1 - 20 m
      Distribution: Indo-Pacific: East Africa to Marquesan and Society islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to the southern Great Barrier Reef. Record from Mauritius requires verification.
      Morphology: Dorsal spines (total): 21-22; Dorsal soft rays (total): 39-42; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 38-43
      Biology: Found over open sandy areas, sometimes with sparse plant growth. Solitary. Feeds on small benthic and pelagic crustaceans
      Aquarium Care: Prefers a water temperature between 72-83ºF (22-28ºC). Natural diet consists mainly of benthic and pelagic crustaceans. Requires a meaty diet, such as enriched brine shrimp, mysis, finely chopped fish or shrimp flesh, and other various frozen carnivore foods, with one or two feedings per day. This species does best when kept with peaceful tankmates. Rarely seen in the hobby. Provide a substrate, and a refugium may be beneficial.
