    Feather Duster

IIs this statement true? A feather duster will lose its crown and grow back smaller if it is starving to death or being picked on?

I know nothing is picking on it and if it is starving, what should I be feeding it and how often?

    Thanks

They usually grow back larger and denser, to pic up more food, to keep from starving. It would be self defeating to grow back a smaller crown. Sick and dieing duster often shed the crown where it never grows back and they die.

I'm assuming you are speaking of a Hawaiian Feather Duster (the large kind).

If so, they are really hard to keep fed because you can't target feed them....they'll just retract. In the wild, they aren't found in the clean waters of the reef...they are found in really dirty water. They feed on phytoplankton, zooplankton, and particulate matter. The main problem you'll run into is that to keep these well fed, you have to have a lot of such foods and doing that means you'll likely have high nitrates and algae problems.
