Hey Vman great to see ya on board.
A remote DSB I believe is the safest way to run this filter if you feel you must run one. This way if work must be done on it you can disconnect it from the main system i order to do so. One thing that is really important is remotely operating a dsb and that is contact time and the location of it to the drain lines of the main. The remote refugium water should be pulled in from as close to the drain outputs as it can. This way you can capture all the detritus the is being pulled from the main tank. This will feed you DSB (remember the DSB is a huge bioload unto itself and must be feed and cared for as such). Also in order to work properly contact time is key (this would also apply for the use of calurpa). Neither of these systems will work if they are not given enough contat time with the water you are trying to have them process. So keep the flow low in these areas.

Very interesting reading, lots to think about here.
In the beginners mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few.
