Rothany's 70 gallon Shallow Volcano Reef, with mangroves !!

Its been so long since I've done a reef tank. Getting pretty excited and been planning the past month.

First of all! This is going to be a extremely slow build, like snail slow. I have a lot of life issues going on ,until they are out
of the way. It will be really slow.

So, this is what I have plannned. A long shallow reef with rocks sticking outta the water, and Mangroves. Like a tank I did Awhile back, but longer.

Tank 70 gallon rimless with starphire front glass panel.. 48x24x12

    Diy stand
    Wood pieces needed

    100 lbs live/dry rock 50/50

Cant wait to see how this turns out I've always thought that having a rock sticking out in the center
or where ever would be cool. I have a rimless to and think its pretty awesome. One of the things that I
have seen in another forum (fresh water) was where they had made roots that stuck down into the water
and thought that was pretty dang cool to. It looked like an underwater view of a river bank where the dirt was
washed away and the roots hang down into the water.

Any ways good luck and great idea!

Two WP40's might be too much on a 48inch tank. I have one on my 75, and as things are growing in now, I _might_ add a 25, but its likely if I added a second 40 I wouldn't be able to run it on anything but low.. Honestly, if I tried it now, I don't know that I could run it at all. Don't know if you've run them before so just a heads up on how much flow they put out. There are a lot of factors that will play into that of course, but it might be worth considering just doing one at first, and judging once you see how it does.

Not sure 4 by's would be necessary for the stand, but if you have the right equipment to cut them it likely won't hurt. I did a 'rocket engineer' stand and with 2 by's and its still way overbuilt...

that is a wonderful tank and your ex sucks for dumping bleach in it. I would almost go as far as to say a horrible person for killing all that life sad day.

if it were me, i would bet a single wp40, get the rocks in and get cycling, then judge it from there.. scape and sand are going to play a role in how much flow you'll be able to get from it...but, i have to see and feel flow, whereas some people can really wrap their heads around it with the visual and such...

Since you are going SPS I would maybe think about a different light. Maybe at least the reefbreeders or BRA. Basically same lights but get some that you know you can trust.

Thanks for heads up. I'm still undecided on lights. I might go diy with aquastyle LEDs .. I'm cheap lol

I went cheap as well. I ended up doing ocean revive version of those LED's. So far really good luck. I have heard a lot of good things about the DIY versions if you are willing to do it.
