Bubble algae in ponape birdsnest: help

Unfortunately, I can’t remove it. It’s very grow into its neighbors. The whole tank is very mature and grown out. I think I’m going to have to break out the infested pieces and try to eradicate the bubbles somehow so they don’t come back.

Bubble algae in ponape birdsnest: help

Thanks For the thoughtful and detailed answer. I don’t think I can remove the piece to dip it as it’s very grown into its neighbors. But I think I will try to break out all of the infested pieces and I may try the peroxide.

Bubble algae in ponape birdsnest: help

Help: I’ve never had Much of a problem with bubble algae (if I had it, it wasn’t that much of a hassle and was in places I could remove.) But now it’s taken over a ponape birdsnest, and because of the delicate tiny coral structures, it’s impossible to get it out, and it’s smothered half of this...

    Giving it up.

I can’t imagine howa 3 year old softie tank that’s lightly stocked could need water changes every two weeks. Do you have a skimmer and some form of mechanical filtration? And maybe some chemical filtration (carbon/chemipure/etc)? I have a heavily stocked, heavily fed, completely grown out 34...

Radion upgrade: to, or not to? To G3, G3P, G4, G4P?

Hmmm...that’s a good point, the prolonging of useful life of the fixture...

Radion upgrade: to, or not to? To G3, G3P, G4, G4P?

Hey all, question regarding coloration/“pop” improvement with Ecotech Radion upgrade options. I’ve been running a G1 Radion for something like 6 years over my 34 gallon Solana. I’m pretty satisfied with output, and the spread is acceptable, corals grow fine, so no real “problems.” But I’ve...

Sprung's "The Reef Aquarium", which volume first?

I just ordered v1. The tie was the $23 price tag on a "good" used copy vs $50 used for v3. ;-)

Sprung's "The Reef Aquarium", which volume first?

Ha. Ok. One vote for v1 and one for v3. :-P

Sprung's "The Reef Aquarium", which volume first?

Good question. I've been devouring reef concepts for the past 2.5 years via the internet (and a few more basic books), but that's a haphazard and all-over-the-boards approach. I'm science-minded & very drawn to the advanced concepts, which is why I was thinking about v. 3. But sure there's...

Sprung's "The Reef Aquarium", which volume first?

I've had Sprung's "The Reef Aquarium" series on my Amazon wish list for a long time, but Santa doesn't appear to use Amazon, so I may have to take matters into my own hands. But oh, they are so expensive! So...which book would you purchase first, and why? Considering v 1 or 3 for starters...

    Most cost-effective tests?

Stacey, how do you like the Hanna for alk? I haven't tried the Red Sea tests; do they give you accurate enough results?

    Most cost-effective tests?

LOL downsized to what? I totally see the benefit in having your frag tank in-line with your main system now, but that doesn't work in the nano world so well, and my house isn't equipped for a fish-room. I do additionally have a QT tank that isn't set up yet, but at some point in my future...

    Most cost-effective tests?

NC2WA, yep, found that one last night! I like the idea of digital checkers but it sounds like the calcium isn't really any less steps and the alk is questionably accurate, but the phos seems well-liked. Too bad you have to calibrate between each use, as I'm now up to 4 tanks that I'm testing...

    Most cost-effective tests?

My internet search seems to generally support that people like the Hanna checker for phos but the other ones a bit less. I think I'll buy the hanna checker when I get low on my current chemicals. Thanks for the input!

    Most cost-effective tests?

Which Hanna checkers do you have and how do you like them? Do you find them easier or harder than drop tests? I was just looking into those as an option. Thanks!

New RO/DI filter from Barrier Reef came with minimal directions...pointers?

Thanks everyone, this information is helpful. There is no brand label on the unit and Barrier Reef sells it as their "signature line." http://www.barrierreefaquariums.com/productcart/pc/Barrier-Reef-s-100-GPD-Deluxe-RO-DI-211p10746.htm It says it comes with a shut-off valve but I don't see...

New RO/DI filter from Barrier Reef came with minimal directions...pointers?

I took advantage of the Barrier Reef Aquariuams holiday sale today and purchased their RO/DI filter unit. It came boxed, but there is no manual, only one sheet of paper with a couple sketches and very minimal instructions. I have never seen one of these plumbed up close before nor have I ever...

    flatworm treatment?

I have dealt with flatworms several times. In my main tank, one treatment with flatworm exit completely did the trick after the second dose. The other tank is another story. That one I inherited from a friend with flatworms over everything. I treated it with flatworm exit on 4 different...

Tank crashing and possible palytoxin poisoning :-(

Thanks everyone. Regarding palytoxin poisoning, I now think I just have a cold or flu, given that I seem to have settled into a run-of-the-mill chest cold/cough. I suppose that's a good thing. Still planning to use precautions with the tank, though. Update on the tank (now : Ammonia 0...
