Pod piles are piles of small pieces of live rock, they are loose enough that water can flow and bring food in and waste out, but tight enough that fish cant get in to eat the pods so they get to have a breeding ground, that is safe from hungry mouths. If your lfs (local fish store) gets in boxed live rock ask them to save the junk at the bottom for you. Usually free or very very low cost. make little pyrimid of this rubble and you have pod piles. Or you can crush a piece with a hammer and make your own. HTH Steve

IMHO is in my humble opinion and DOM are dissolved organic material, (I think) I always take it to mean the little pieces of stuff floating around in the tank. As IMHO DOMs are a great snack for hungry corals. LOL HTH. Steve. : )

Actually, DOM (disolved organic matter) is disolved, so you won't see it as particles - just possibly as a yellow tint to the water if it gets too bad. We use our skimmers to try to remove DOM.

POM, or particulate organic matter are the very tiny particles in the water column. As Steve mentioned, they can be excellent food for some corals. Suspended detritus falls into the category of POM. Some people use filter socks where the drain dumps into the sump to try to reduce the amount of POM in the water. Depends somewhat on the type of corals you want to keep.

Thanks, I have found that I can have a conversation with someone, and both of us think the same word means different things. I get stuff wrong all the time. Don is dead on and I had it wrong. LOL Steve
