Randy Holmes-Farley wrote this article on how to mix your own 2 part calcium-alkalinity additives from normal things you can buy at the grocery store and hardware store. Interesting read. He also talks about using Epsom salts for magnesium and discusses the build up of different chemicals in the test tank over a year.

I went by Home Depot here and as ussual no one knows about the DowFlakes (Kind of like the southdown sand). I work at Lowe's so know we don't have it. The closest thing I can come up with is the more expensive Damp Rid (CaCl). There must be a better way...

well thanks for letting us know that Home Depot and Lowe's doesn't carry it. I was going to venture out this weekend and see if I could find any.
