you know those formed sandstone-type rocks found at every pet store.
I saw a guy put one in saltwater tank w/corals. Is this gonna kill his stuff?

Hmmm.....I'm not sure what they are completely made of. I guess it would depend on its composition.

I wonder if anyone's put some in a bucket of SW for a few weeks and ran tests on it. Interesting thought. Though different faux rock manufacturers probably have different compositions.

I don't think it would hurt or harm his tank...just look a little tacky, IMO, until it got covered with coralline and whatnot.

between a rock and a hard place: (Bremerton, WA)
i had put a couple leftover pieces of the sandstone (the redish and white kind) in a hospital tank not too long ago while battling ich to make the fish feel better. the fish were in there for about six weeks and none of them died despite being parasitized and subjected to the stress of hypo salinity.
that should be a good argument for the safety of the rock, even if it is tacky.

Yea I have seen them used in FO tanks for years with out problem, but it would really depend on the composition. Iron/ore would be my first concern.
