I have been rethinking my circulation for a new setup. I now have 2 terbelle stream6060 power heads each with a output of 1600 gph. Question is where to put them in the 90 gal tank so that everything is now being pounded by the current. Also I will be reducing the flow thru the overflow from 1600 gph to somewhere in the 700 gph range. So the 2 questions are placement of powerheads and right amount of flow thru a sump. Return pump will be a Mag9.5 running up and aimed at the back of the rock. will all this give me the right flow or not.Something I thought about was having the return go to a spray bar behind the rock but was concerned about hydro going out and that would drain the tank. Hope this makes sense and any ideas would be appreciated.

Do you have the electronic controllers with them? If so you can put one directly across from each other & adjust the pulsing speeds opposite to create waves. The Stream pumps will produce nice wave movement.

Hope this link works.

Anyways, the controllers is the heart of the pumps, this is used for timing, feeding night time etc. You can set the varying controller to speed (Pulse ) from high to anywhere's between, almost half power. The pulsing frequency also can be adjusted, otherwise you just have one big PH pushing water at a steady rate.

I would not have them pointing directly at a coral. I put mine in the front upper corners of the tank pointly slightly at the front glass. That way, the current will run down the front of the glass and collide in the middle.

They will tear flesh off corals if direct and too close.

Doug If these are new ones I would send them back and buy the 6000's. The 6060's are not controllable, other then running them one at a time off of say a wavemaster or such. I would not run your spray bar off of the sump return, if your return pump was to quit your tank would drain down to the spraybar. Spraybars need to be on a closed loop, you could run a oneway check valve on the return line but they have been known to get pact full of crud and fail, I would not want to trust one. You could run your return from the sump pump up the back of the tank and down the back wall and drill a hole underneath the U part where it goes over the top, make sure the hole isunderneath and inside the tank, this way if the power goes out you well have a syphon break at the top of the tank, if you follow what I just said LOL.

The 6060 cannot be electronically controlled. What you CAN do is put 'em on a conventional timer with 1 hour on/off cycles. Tunze states that the 6060 and the 6080 can withstand 1 hour on/off indefinitely. Anything faster than that AMFYOYO. I would suggest the following. Have one dialed in full bore and running along the bottom back of the tank. This will avoid having stuff accummulate there which tends to be a "problem area" in most tanks. Of course this means you gotta make your rockwork accomodate this. Then have the other one facing the opposite direction towards the front and being pulsed every other hour. DO NOT point streams right at corals. If the coral is within a foot or so, they will get the flesh stripped off of them.

Ive decided to stick with the 6060s. Recommendation is one at each end. I have each on a electronic timer. so 1 will run for an hour then turn off the other will come on 15 minutes before the first turns off and collide with each other. then the process will go the other way. I have now eliminated 2 mag 9s and will run a smaller pump for the return from the sump. At least the Tunze Sponser at RC suggests it.What say you all.
